Fitness Motivation Through the Ages

Young kids amaze me. They have boundless energy, and their exercise isn’t “exercise” at all. My kids love to just run around the yard. They have no distance goal, no heart rate monitor. It’s not even a competition or race most of the time. They chase and throw balls and jump just to move. I mean, they jump. Jumping hasn’t been fun for me for many, many years. But to them it’s just one more way to move their little bodies, and to them, moving their bodies is just pure fun.

I try to get back into that mindset as often as I can. They get out the jump rope, I jump rope even if it’s way too short for me and I have to double over to attempt double unders. They get out balls, we throw and chase and pretend to play volleyball. A hula hoop comes out, I make a fool of myself. The following infographic reminded me of all this. Not only does it have some great tips for workout motivation, but it also breaks fitness into ages, with how you typically get your exercise throughout the years and the goals people are likely to have at that time.

This chart from the BHG 360 blog shows all sorts of fitness, nutrition, and wellness tips in light of National Physical Fitness and Sports month. Although Bankers Healthcare Group is a provider of physician loans, they feel it’s especially important to stay connected with the fitness, nutrition, and wellness communities since they work so closely with healthcare professionals on a daily basis. The only thing that makes me mad is that I’m getting close to the upper end of the age bracket on this chart!

I do love the tips for revamping your worn-out routine. How do you kick motivation boredom? I’m actually taking a kettlebell workshop this weekend so I’ll have some new moves to add to my routine! —Erin
