What Makes a Good Food Day?

Eat healthy.
There are myriad ways to interpret that advise. Some folks forgo all dietary fat, erroneously thinking it is their enemy; others choose to mimic the eating habits of their cave-dwelling ancestors; and still others consume a strictly plant-based diet.
But, to Marco Canora, professional chef and restaurateur, those two words signified the end to all he had known and loved. Or so he thought.
When food is the center of your universe, the notion of a restricted “diet” is unthinkable. Yet, at 40, Canora stood at the crossroads: change his eating habits and lifestyle or be sentenced to a lifetime of sleep apnea, low energy, painful gout, high cholesterol and general poor health.
Unwilling to go down without a fight, Marco came to the realization that no matter what food path one chooses to follow, it need not be bland and tasteless. He dug deep into his Italian heritage, focusing on fresh, simple ingredients and created meals that would not only bring him good health, but also tasted good — as in really good.
A Good Food Day is Marco’s gift to those who adamantly refuse to sacrifice flavor in the name of healthy eats. This chef-approved collection of recipes runs the gamut from unique smoothies to one-pot meals to restaurant-worthy fare. As Marco explains, healthy eating does not limit one’s food choices, but rather opens it up to a whole new and exciting world of ingredients.
I’ve made a number of recipes, all of which turned out utterly fantastic, but were in no way difficult to prepare. His Flavor-Pounded Chicken can be prepped ahead of time and takes under 10 minutes to cook, and Whole Wheat Rigatoni with Porcini Mushrooms and Baby Spinach was a cheesy, vegetarian delight.
Marco’s personal anecdotes and candid manner offer a refreshing take on a much talked about subject. With each recipe he explains why he chose a specific ingredient and what makes it a healthy choice.
So what makes a good food day? As Marco believes, it’s a day when feeling well and eating well go hand in hand! If you love food, but aren’t willing to sacrifice flavor, Marco Canora’s A Good Food Day is for you.
What makes your day a ‘good food day’? I love it when I get to try a fabulous new recipe! Karen
