Fall Asleep Reading? A New Way to Get Your Non-Fiction Knowledge
Since becoming a parent, my love for reading has taken a back seat to just about everything else in life. Reading seems like a luxury I can’t afford right now, so my list of to-reads gets longer by the day. I usually check out books only to have to renew them several times before getting through them; books take awhile to read when I can only make it through a few pages before my eyes are closing and I’m jolted awake to realize I dropped the book.
So when Jenn tried out Blinkist, a new app that breaks books down into digestible 15-minute summaries, my ears perked up. Yes, it sounds like a short-cut to reading for sure — and if you’re already a reading purist who doesn’t even do audiobooks, this may not be for you. But if you’ve got dozens of non-fiction books on your list — those where you don’t necessarily need to read every page to get the point — Blinkist makes it easy to learn while you’re doing other things (like working out!).
So while I’d NEVER recommend taking a shortcut for, say, Love in the Time of Cholera, if you’re interested in The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, Blinkist may be your ticket to making it through a book. Check out what else Jenn had to say about it.
Would you use an app like this to read non-fiction? —Erin
