Things I’ve Done While Breastfeeding My Second Child (That I Never Would Have Attempted with my First)
When I nursed the first time, I was adamant about being in Evan’s rocking chair. I was set up with my water on the nightstand, Boppy on my lap, burp cloth on the chair of the arm, all in a comfortable, quiet room. Poor Sadie; her sessions are not quite as charming as Evan’s. Sure, I’ve nursed in some crazy places with Evan, but when I was home, I was strictly focused on getting that feeding in calmly. Now, it’s not nearly as relaxing, so I juggle — a lot. It’s actually amazing the things I can do while also nursing. For example:
- Cooking dinner; chopping vegetables (all but an onion and sweet potatoes)
- Bathing, diapering and dressing Evan
- Straightening up my house (because I get that done quicker when someone is on their way over than any other time)
- Put on makeup
- Typed a blog post
- Colored
- Walked with a friend, while pushing a stroller
- Budgeted with my husband
- Got my eyebrows waxed with my esthetician
- Stripped a bed, because diapers are terrible
- In the chair while getting a mani/pedi, at the same time
- Got my flu shot
It all comes down to you gotta do what you gotta do. And sometimes you gotta do two things at once when you’re juggling multiple kiddos!
