How to Upgrade School Lunches

I texted Jenn and Tish the other day and said that if they ever did cutesy lunches for their kids I would unfriend them.

Don’t get me wrong, I think Pinteresty lunches with star cutouts and elaborate art scenes are adorable, but after “aww, cute!” my next thought is:

Because, really. Who has that kind of time? So instead of feeling like an inferior mom for not putting together the Monet of school lunches each day, focus on the nutrition. At my daughter’s school, peanut butter is off limits, so I’ve been forced to get a little more creative with lunches. Fortunately, sunflower butter and soy butter are great substitutes if you’ve got PB&J-loving kiddos like I do.

After commenting on the cute lunches and complaining about not being able to do peanut butter, Tish sent me this video from Momma Sohn with great ideas for school lunches that focus on high-protein, low-sugar and super nutritious options that kids will love. Bonus? These ideas are also great for moms on the go, too.

What is your favorite item to pack in kids’ lunches? I’m a big fan of squeezable yogurt, and I love the idea of the pouches for bigger kids, too. —Erin
