Water Conservation: Hand Washing vs. Dishwasher

This question has been debated by my family ever since I can remember. What’s better: washing dishes by hand or using a dishwasher?
I’ll be honest — if it’s up to me to get the dishes clean, I am all about just loading up the dishwasher with very minimal pre-rinse, but that really has more to do with how much I dislike washing dishes than water conservation. (I grew up with no dishwasher in my house, so I think that set me up for a lifetime of feeling like a petulant child every time I step up to a sink full of soapy water.)
However, according to this nifty infographic (which, granted, comes from Samsung, who makes dishwashers they’d like you to buy), I’m not doing the lazy thing — I’m doing the environmentally responsible water conservation thing!
