Ahi Tuna Salad with Sesame Seeds and Blue Cheese Dressing

seared ahi tuna salad
A fabulous ahi tuna salad with fresh greens is one of my very favorite dishes to order in a good seafood restaurant, but for some reason, I’ve always been nervous about making seared ahi tuna at home. I don’t know — I guess I’m more comfortable eating rare tuna if I believe the person preparing it actually knows what they’re doing. But I’ve always wanted to give it a shot, if only for the fact that I can then have it far more often!
And I think I’m ready to give it a try now that I’ve seen how simple (and quick! OMG, so quick) it is in this video from our affiliate friends at Grokker. I mean, I was aware of how easy it is to make a salad — I’m kiiiind of a pro at that part. But the searing of the tuna? It looks surprisingly easy!
Don’t believe me? Just watch! (And find the written recipe below.)

Seared Ahi Tuna Salad Recipe

Ahi Salad with Sesame
Author:
Recipe type: Main
Cuisine: Asian

Ingredients
  • 1 pound of ahi tuna filet
  • ⅛ cup of olive oil
  • ½ cup of black sesame seed
  • Mixed greens for salad:
  • 3 tablespoon blue cheese dressing (store bought)
  • 1 teaspoon Sriracha sauce
  • Spinach
  • Baby kale
  • Red baby lettuce
Instructions
  1. Get your pan screaming hot and take a ⅛ cup or 2 tbsp of olive oil and pour in the pan. Take your tuna and coat it with ½ cup of black sesame seeds on the top and bottom.
  2. Place tuna in the screaming hot pan and sear all sides. Once the tuna is seared take it out. Place it in the refrigerator for 5-10 minutes to make it stop cooking.
  3. Take the tuna out of the refrigerator and slice it into very thin slices.
  4. In a bowl add all your greens and toss with blue cheese dressing.
  5. Plate your salad and place the ahi tuna on top. If you like your salad with a kick, add a drizzle of Sriacha on top and you're ready to serve.

Are there any culinary delights that you love to eat but are scared to try making? Now that I’m ready to tackle ahi tuna, I’ll have to find a new challenge. Kristen
