Holiday Cocktails: Tips, Tricks and Recipes

Want to get your holiday spirit on with a great cocktail, but want to be mindful of your healthy habits? Cheers to that, my friend. It can be tough to embrace the festivity that comes with this season without abandoning the smart choices you try to make the rest of the year.
Notice I said tough — not impossible.
We hit up Daniel Winer, CEO of Juicepresso USA for tips on making great, health-conscious (to an extent, anyway) holiday cocktails, and we have a feeling you’re going to like what he has to say.

Tips for Using Juice in Holiday Cocktails

Sugar equals calories. Stick with fruits and veggies with minimal sugar and you’ll save on calories. Try swapping raw blueberries and sweet cherries (both high in natural sugars) for raw cranberries, raspberries or blackberries. Plus, berries have some of the highest levels of antioxidants and nutrients in them.
Tomatoes are also incredibly low in sugar and very high in vitamin C, vitamin K, and vitamin A, potassium, manganese, and lycopene. Fresh juice from citrus fruits (not concentrated or processed juices, which have concentrated sugar) makes the perfect mixer; try lemons, oranges, limes and grapefruit.
Create a healthy signature holiday juice cocktail. Use produce that is in season. Cranberries always make you think of the holidays. Surprisingly, grapefruits, oranges, lemons and limes are in season in the dead of winter. Plus they add a fresh zing to any recipe. Additionally, anything with bubbles adds a festive feel to any cocktail creation.
