Shiva Rea’s Love Tonic Recipe

love-tonicConfession: We’re Shiva Rea superfans. So when she offered to share her love tonic recipe with us in celebration of Valentine’s Day? We were SO PUMPED.
And then, we’re all, like, what’s a love tonic after all? And she explained. Read on for what might be the most enlightened and sexiest drink you’ve ever heard about. Seriously.

A Juicy Offering to Cultivate the Rasa of Love by Shiva Rea

Ahh … I am an advocate for the cultivation of love any time of year but particularly for the week of Valentine’s, as the winter time is conducive to making “love tonics” or rasayanas that are good for cultivating ojas — your natural juiciness — longevity, immunity, general well-being and sexual libido. Rasayana represents the cultivation of the juicy aspects of our being — the elixir of life.
The word rasayana is made up of two words: rasa, which means juice taste, essence found in substances and in life, and ayana, meaning source. Ojas and rasa are cultivated in both dravaya (food herbs and elixirs) and adravya rasayana (way of life) forms.
Rasayana are best enjoyed before we go to bed at night, as warm healthy milks such as nut-based almond or cashew milk are both a sleep as well as sexual regeneration tonic after love-making.
So for all the rasikas — lovers of life — here is a love tonic recipe for you that uses everyday tonic spices. You can connect with Banyan Botanicals if you would like to integrate classic rasayana herbs such as shatavri for women or ashwaghanda for men and women in powder or tincture form.
