The Latest from Brooks Running: Lightweight with a Bionic Look

Being Brooks Running ambassadors, it’s always exciting to get to preview the latest and greatest Brooks gear. And the shoes and running attire are always awesome. But sometimes something comes along that really gets the three of us talking. And this month, it was the Neuro. Have you ever seen a shoe that looks like this?

I lucked out and got to try the Neuro ($130), and I’m fairly certain the other two ladies were a bit jealous. Okay, a lot jealous. But it is built for speed, so clearly I was the one who was fit for this task. (I kid; I’m so not fast.) The shoe is built to react to your running surface so that your last mile of a run feels as fast as the first. To do that, the shoe incorporates technology that supports the idea that no two bodies move in exactly the same way; in other words, the shoe encourages the runner’s natural movement.

It’s designed to  have a second-skin fit, and it really does eliminate any extra volume inside the shoe. It hugs your foot for better foot alignment — I particularly noticed this hugging at my inner arch area, which really make my feet feel supported no matter how fast I was running. I have a high arch, so this additional support felt amazing. They also feel really light, weighing in at just 7.9 ounces. The mesh upper helps with that second-skin feel and flexibility and keeps the air flowing so no matter how fast you are, your feet stay cool and dry. And while I don’t know that I felt bionic — the Propulsion Pods on the outsole made me look bionic. These blown rubber pods are filled with BioMoGo DNA that helps blast energy forward and look super cool to boot. Er, shoe.

I also tried out the Brooks Running Steady Sleeveless ($45).

It promises to keep you 30 percent cooler because of its open mesh back and DriLayer Steady thermoregulation fabric that wicks moisture away from your body while also making your sweat work for you. It’s got four-way stretch and a fitted style; it’s so lightweight that it feels like a second skin. When it comes to tops, the lighter weight the better for me — I want to totally forget about it. This definitely fits the bill, and it’s so lightweight and comfortable that you might have one of those moments when you panic because you think you forgot your shirt mid-workout.

Do you want to forget you’re wearing clothing and shoes when you’re working out, too?Erin
