5 Tips for Getting Back Into Your Fitness Routine

Stephanie Abrams Cartin and Courtney Spritzer, co-founders of Socialfly, are no strangers to the power of breaking a sweat for business success. Going on five years of running their successful social media startup agency in NYC, growing organically without investment and consistently increasing their staff, they credit much of their success to how devoted they are to training multiple times a week.

Whether you’re running a business or running a household — or both! — exercise can seriously up your productivity and energy levels. Despite lack of time being the number one enemy, exercise has been proven to build stamina so you can work longer, more productive hours. Moms and managers alike can attest to that need. Today, Stephanie and Courtney share their top five secrets for getting into a routine.

5 Tips for Getting into a Fitness Routine

1. Find a buddy. Similar to sharing a corner office, Courtney and Stephanie are often seen in the gym together — helping each other finish sets and motivating one another to get the job done! If you don’t know where to start, ask your favorite colleague or office buddy where she works out and if you can join her; countless studies have shown that accountability matters when it comes to sticking to a gym routine.

2. Think about investing in personal training. If it’s in the budget, it makes all the difference between getting professional help or going on your own, says Courtney Spritzer, who trains with celebrity fitness trainer and owner of Body Space Fitness, Kelvin Gary, once a week. “He guarantees we switch it up with new routines so we’re always striving for more.”

Best of all, they encourage their followers/fans on Instagram to join them and by offering a discount to Body Space Fitness if they mention SOCIALFLY. It’s a win-win!

3. Work out for something you care about. Five years ago, Stephanie was diagnosed with MS. Instead of letting it dominate her life, she continued to build her business while simultaneously becoming an active committee member of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. She proceeded to spearhead MSquared, an annual fundraiser to raise money for MS research. The event raised over $10,000 last year alone. She also participates in fitness fundraisers where a portion of the proceeds are donated to finding a cure for MS.

4. Don’t take yourself so seriously. As seen in the photo below, Steph and Courtney don’t believe in seeing working out as a drag. Quite the opposite. They engage in activities they love, don’t overdo it, and make sure they’re having fun.

Why? All too often you see people in the gym with stern, angry faces on and they look as if they can’t wait to get out of there! But in order to keep motivated Steph and Courtney suggest seeing the gym like it is an adult playground: don’t take yourself too seriously, do your best, play and try out new machines, and remember it’s okay to laugh once in a while!

5. They leave the office early to train. No matter how busy they get, they have it on their agenda to leave the office extra early at least one day a week, if not more. If you’re not one of those executives that have a morning routine of getting to the gym early, consider shutting down a little earlier than usual or going on your lunch break. Contrary to what it seems, it actually makes you more productive!
