The One Question That Will Change Your Life

question

Life and happiness is so much about perspective — and perception. We all know the bit about the glass being half full or half empty, but what about the day-to-day doings of your life? Do you greet them with enthusiasm or at least a little mindfulness (for me: yoga, meditation, workouts, healthy eating — yes, yes, yes, yes) or do you seem them as annoying have-tos on your list of things to get done (traffic, dishes, laundry — yes, yes, yes)?

What if you changed your mindset about those things? How could it change your life? What if you saw the traffic as a chance to sit and listen to your favorite music? Or all those chores as an opportunity to be more active and/or do them so purposefully that they actually became meditative? Or that workout as luxurious me-time?

Yep, perspective is everything.

I always think about all of those stories about families who have lost everything under tragic circumstances of war, poverty, illness or severe weather — and yet, as long as they’re together, many times they’ve actually found peace and a deeper and truer happiness.

And here we are running around all day long like our heads have been chopped off complaining that we don’t have enough time or money to do this or that. But is that true, really? What if we changed our perspective? How could it change your life, in every single area?

Not, what if we saw the glass as half full, but what if we just turned on the freakin’ faucet and sent it just overflowing with awesomeness? What if we really sought out the good in everything and asked ourselves: Could I see this another way? Could we even get a little good from even the seemingly bad?

Maybe not from everything, but I bet we could from a lot of things. I know I could. This inspirational quote from Fit Bottomed Zen just kind of sums it up perfectly, huh? It actually inspired this entire post.

Now tell me: How could you see things in a different way? I’m about to go fold laundry in a newly enlightened way, thankyouverymuch.Jenn

Great Post! Perspective is such an important part of the healthy living journey. I have found that when I have begun to hit a barrier in my fitness goals, that what I am really in my way is my point of view. Thank you for reminding me to always look at my current view from different perspectives.

Hi Jenn! Awesome post. I couldn’t agree with you more. Perspective, I believe, is everything. It’s the only thing that allows us to see an experience as something that can help us learn, grow and enjoy, even though it might seem boring, mundane or painful right now. Exercise is a good example. For some people, exercise may is uncomfortable and requires too much effort, but if you switch up your perspective to see exercise for what it is – a good way to keep yourself alive and healthy – then working out becomes a whole new experience altogether. 🙂
