4 New Products Making a Splash: Like, Literally

new product

You know when people say “literally” when they actually mean “figuratively”? Yeah, that drives us crazy. But for this post, we mean “making a splash” literally. Yes, seriously! As literally as this cute husky splashing in a kiddie pool!

Because these new products either give you a splash of coolness — or they keep your workout essentials dry. Even when you get splashed by a rain puddle or a wave or a whale. (Hey, it could happen.)

Read on for four new products we were sent to review and that we’ve been loving all summer long!

1. JBL Charge 3 ($149.95)

JBL_Charge3_Blue_Hero_x2

If you ever wanted a speaker to take with you to the park or your backyard to get a great pumpin’ workout in — or, if you’re like on a boat sailing or camping or at a pool and need tunes — this is it. It’s portable, Bluetooth-powered AND it has a high-capacity battery to charge all your devices while you’re on-the-go. (Talk about never running out of battery on your cellie again!) It’s also waterproof — meaning, if it falls into that pool or body of water you’re near, your speaker isn’t shot. It’s got great bass and a fabulous sound — and you can even route your calls through it. ‘Cause nothing says “speakerphone” like a pool party, right?

2. Waterfi’s Waterproofed Fitbit Blaze ($299)

I (Kristen) have had my eye on the Fitbit Blaze since I heard it was hitting the market. It’s an attractive, low-profile watch that tracks just about everything I could ever want to know (current and resting heart rate, steps taken, stairs climbed, sleep quality, food, workouts, plus it allows you to set alarms, control music on your phone, check messages, answer calls and more). But I just couldn’t get down with the idea of a fitness watch/activity monitor that wasn’t totally waterproof. Even if I don’t wear it for swimming, I often run in the rain (and we get tons of that here in Florida, let me tell you), I sweat a lot, and I will almost certainly forget to take it off when I shower.

So, yeah, spending big bucks on a tracker that can’t get wet is a no-go, which is why I full on geeked out when Waterfi (who I’d worked with on a review of the Jawbone UP24 previously) contacted me saying that they were now offering a waterproofed Fitbit Blaze! It runs $299 on the Waterfi website (the regular, un-waterproofed version is $229.95), and is waterproof to 25 feet underwater, even in chlorine or salt water. To say I’m a little obsessed with this thing is an understatement — I’ve worn it nonstop since it arrived on my doorstep, other than the short bits of time when it needs to recharge (which has only been about every five days for me). Can you say game changer? Because I think my watch can … even underwater.

3. Mission Athletics Enduracool Products ($14.99 to $22.99)

In the constant battle between staying cool while working out in the heat and still, you know, looking cool, we just landed a big win. I’ve been a fan of the Mission Athletics Enduracool products for a while now — I often have one of their towels at the ready, I’ve used the cooling sleeves to great effect, and my husband has a couple of the Multi-Cools on hand for running and yard work. (If you’re not familiar with Enduracool, the deal is that you soak ’em in water, ring them out, and they drop about 30 degrees below body temp, which feels AWESOME.) But I hadn’t tried the Lockdown Cooling Headband, which looks good and — gasp! — actually stays put, or the Cooling Performance Hat. They both work in a similar way to the other products, but the difference is that they look like items I’d wear anyway — they just happen to go above and beyond when I get them wet midway through a run, which is seriously fantastic.

4. JBL Clip 2 ($59.95)

JBL_Clip2_Black_Hero_x1

Love that first JBL speaker but don’t want something so large or need a lower-cost option? Say hello to the adorable JBL Clip 2. This little speaker has a built-in carabiner that’s great for clipping on your backpack, gym bag, stroller or beach chair for tunes wherever your active life takes you. Waterproof and Bluetooth-enabled like the JBL Charge 3, you can also take calls from it. And, if you and a friend have a JBL Clip 2, you can daisy chain them together for a surround-sound-like experience. I mean, does your outdoor boot camp have waterproof and sweat-proof surround sound? Ours does with this thing!

What new products are making a splash in your fit world? And, okay, fine. We can mean that literally and figuratively. —Jenn & Kristen
