New Back-to-School Snacks That Are Totally Kid-Approved

back-to-school snacks

When it comes to back-to-school snacks and meals, they must meet five criteria for us to consider them truly awesome:

  1. Portable.
  2. Kids will eat them.
  3. Easy to pack.
  4. Nutritious.
  5. They don’t make a huge mess.

Otherwise?

And, with that in mind, we tried two new potentially awesome back-to-school snack contenders. See how they stood up in our lunchboxes and at home …

Chobani Kids’ Greek Yogurt Tubes

These Chobani Kids Greek Yogurt Tubes are FUN, right? I mean, the superheroes totally get Gwen and I. Especially, this one. I mean, Gwen was Wonder Woman for Halloween last year …

In any food post, it always looks like I’m tormenting Gwen with food. I promise I snap quick and then feed the cute little beast.

And they’re pretty darn nutritious. Made with only natural ingredients that are blended with low-fat, creamy yogurt in fun flavors like Mixed Berry, Watermelon and Grape, each tube has 5 grams of protein and 25 percent less sugar than other kids’ tubes. Plus, probiotics.

AND — this might be my fave part of them — you can freeze them. This means that not only do they have a longer life in your kitchen, but that you can pop them straight out of your freezer in the morning and they’re still cool but ready to eat by lunch without refrigeration. Brilliant.

Gwen loved the heck out of these, but since you do just tear off a corner and go to town, they can (and often did in our household) make quite the mess. Probably better for the kindergarten-plus age set.

Justin’s Snack Pack Peanut Butter and Banana Chips

What is it about banana and peanut butter that is so darn delicious? I think it’s hard-wired into us because the first time Gwen had it her eyes lit up like she’d just tasted heaven.

I know, kid. I know.

And while it can be hard to pack banana slices because they get so brown so fast, look at this handy dandy back-to-school snack solution: Justin’s Snack Pack Peanut Butter and Banana Chips.

With clean ingredients, 210 calories, 6 grams of protein and 6 grams of sugar, this is a filling and satisfying stick-to-your-ribs kinda snack if you eat the whole thing. Which my daughter did with serious focus.

Note the location of the hair tie.

Plus territorial independent attitude. I could barely snap a photo, lest I be in violation of getting too close to yummy snack.

See, the snack block arm out?

And we’ve lost the hair tie totally. Snack hair, don’t care.

And talk about a convenient and portable back-to-school snack that you could throw in a lunchbox or a bag easily. They come in both classic peanut butter and honey peanut butter.

However, this one has the same issue as the yogurt tubes … little ones make little (or big) messes of them! (She loves both of them so much though that it’s worth the mess.)

What are some of your tried and true back-to-school snacks? As much as I do love these, it really is hard to beat the ol’ standbys like a PB&J sandwich or an apple, right? Jenn
