There are a few ways it can start. Sometimes, I’ll be inspired by a recipe in a new cookbook. Or by a display in the grocery store. Or because I lingered too long on a cooking show where Giada or Rachael or Alton are making some incredible meal look like the easiest thing anybody has ever made.

But I always have beverages, and I’ve found that people are rarely too disappointed in a lack of gourmet fare as long as I’ve got something tasty for them to drink.
