Break Your Routine and Ad-Lib Life to Grow

routine

Having a routine is a good thing. It gets us to the gym, helps us maintain a healthy balance in our diet and tells us to go to bed at a reasonable hour. But, like most everything in life, too much of a good thing can turn into a bad thing.

If our actions — or thinking, for that matter — become rigid, after a while we fail to grow. It’s like doing the same workout over and over until our progress comes to a screeching halt.

The same goes for life.

Sometimes our pattern of routine behavior is less about personal development and more about attachment to a predictable outcome. The same circle of friends, job, food, exercise, even our choice of entertainment; it’s a safe way to exist, and a good way to get stuck.

But there is a way to get unstuck.

When we relax our grip on what we perceive to be the perfect reality, life opens up and we are able to expand in ways we never thought possible. Not knowing what is around the next corner forces us to become comfortable with the uncomfortable. When this happens, our happiness will no longer depend on our preconceived notion of how things should be, but instead, will be based on how things really are.

This is “living in the moment” at its finest.

Don’t be afraid to try new things and be fluid in your expectations. Work a little spontaneity into your day and ad-lib life to break the molds you’ve created. It can be hard and a bit scary to break out of a routine and dive head first into the unknown, but once you have it mastered you’ll be able to weather the storm no matter what life throws at you.

Surrender to life and see where it takes you.

Enjoy the ride!
