How to Keep Your Family Safe and Seen With the Time Change

safe and seen

With the time change, you may have more daylight in the evenings, but the mornings at the bus stop or at drop-off?

(That’s the best I could find for “Who turned off the lights?” and I kind of love it.)

It’s so dark out! So, how can you and your kiddos be safe and seen? We recently got hip to a few different products, and we’re sharing them today!

Brilliant Reflective Safety Strips ($9.95)

reflective-tape

Okay, these truly live up to the “Brilliant” name. Available in iron-on and stick-on options, these are made with 3M Scotchlite Reflective Material and can be put on pretty much anything, making whatever you choose to wear or carry awesomely reflective and more likely to be seen at night. It comes in fun colors like black, red, blue and purple, and actually looks pretty normal (not overly reflective and bright or shiny) during the day. Don’t buy new gear — just put this on your and their clothing, shoes, helmets, bikes, water bottles, backpacks …. all of it. Oh, and if you’ve got older kids, let them in on the fun by having them make some fun designs with the tape. It’s basically a craft project you can do together!

RunLites Half-Length Gloves ($34.99)

RunLites-Gloves-(Pink-Stripe)-Half-Length-(1)

As moms, we’re always carrying our stuff … and everyone else’s it seems (plus, probably a kiddo on the hip). So, it’s not like we have the extra hand to carry a flashlight. And while I’ve thought about wearing a headlamp at times (it WOULD be convenient when walking the dog), I have to admit that I’d be a little self conscious doing it. But these gloves that bring light to your hands anywhere you go without you having to hold anything? Oh yeah! Lightweight and wearable, they give you hands-free lighting for basically anything you do outdoors: running, walking, cycling, hiking, camping, etc. Heck, they even come in handy when you’re taking the trash out at night or if a storm rolls in and you lose power. They come in all kinds of styles, colors and sizes and the LED lights are rechargeable, giving you up to 12 hours of continuous use. The light projects out up to 15 feet wherever you need it, so it’s seriously great for basically anything.

SlapWrapz ($14.95)

slap

You guys remember slap bracelets, right? (Of course you do. THEY WERE THE BEST.) Well, these are basically that with LED lights built in. With the flick of your wrist, the adjustable band fits to just about anything (hands, wrists, strollers, etc.). These are great for anything you do outdoors and also awesome for schooling your kids on one of the greatest fashion trends of the early 90s. So, it’s basically a teaching moment in history AND safety.

The next time change thing I need help with? Nap and bedtimes! —Jenn
