6 Ways Parents Can Get a Break During Spring Break, Too

Spring break is upon us! But it doesn’t have to be just about the kiddos. Getting some rest and relaxation in the evening is essential for parents, but nights out on the town can get a little pricey. Here are some ideas to keep it low key at home but still enjoy a break from your regular routine. (And, if you’re stuck inside for your kids’ spring break, check out these fun indoor ideas!)

6 Ways Parents Can Get a Break During Spring Break, Too

1. Don’t put away the Netflix just yet. But take a break from your regular binge watching shows for your old favorite movie and pop some popcorn or share a box of candy! And if you don’t have Netflix or another streaming subscription, don’t forget about Redbox! You can’t beat a $2 rental and you can browse the selection and make a reservation online!

2. Play a board game or a card game. Invite another couple over and see who can snatch up Park Place first! Some of our favorite games are Scrabble, Farkle, Monopoly and Spades.

3. Search for deals at area restaurants. $5 burger night, $2 tacos, half-price wine, and if you can find a free babysitter even better!

4. Dinner for two. In our house, dinner duties are usually split between actually cooking dinner and watching the kids. We always sit down to dinner as a family, but occasionally we will have a small appetizer with our girls while they eat. And then after bedtime, we cook a meal together and enjoy a kid-free dinner at home. Light a candle, pour a cocktail, play some music — make it special and different.

5. Wine tasting at home? Yes, please! I really enjoy anything slightly more when I can do it in my sweat pants. Pick up a bottle of wine or your preferred adult beverage and pair it with some cheese and crackers. If you’re in your own home, no one will know if that cheese is actually string cheese!

6. Go to bed early! This one is challenging for all us parents. The laundry can wait, and your DVR will still be there tomorrow.

How do you like to take a break? —Julie
