The Event That Left Me Feeling Like a Badass

The power of social media introduced us to Sarah Buchanan, founder of Indulge, a community for women to come together and “define their own balance and feel like badass babe warriors.” It is a day to sweat, connect to like-minded women, and to find ourselves.

The entire day was over six hours — a quick, fast and magical six hours. We started off schmoozing with some delicious protein treats and juices by Unbakery & Juicery. The entire day was full of inspirational discussions led by Jessica Betts with Rebel who received a donation from Indulge, goal setting with Diana Davis of Lululemon, being honest with Sarah, and learning the importance of essential oils with Allyson Cheney of Young Living Essential Oils.

Each speaker focused on a topic that was empowering and inspiring, allowing us to see ourselves through their words and creating a path that encourages better health and wellness.

In between speeches, we sweated … A LOT! We did a bootcamp led by Jacy Mercer and Corina Barnes of Freight House. Indulge was actually hosted by Freight House Fitness and it was such a unique space! Above our heads, the open air space was illuminated by different chandeliers and hanging rope lights. The industrial building alone feels badass, then you add 100+ babes to the mix and it was the hottest place in KC on a 50-degree day! Outside the building, we were led by Brooke Budke of Title Boxing Club. This high-power workout encouraged us to put more force behind what we want. It was unbelievable having the sun shine down on us and the coaches carefully teaching us technique all while encouraging us to fight harder and longer.

We came inside and did a fusion movement class led by Michelle Derry who teaches at the Y in Parkville. We later calmed our day by slowing down our body with yoga by Amy Morrison of Namastamy.

After a series of flows, Amy led us into our Shavasana. This is the moment I will never forget and will always be thankful for. This Shavasana was like no other.

All of those involved in Indulge KC this day, stood in different places in the room, each taking a turn and reading a line sent to Sarah by our loved ones — a secret no one knew was coming. It didn’t take long for me to know which one was meant for me by my husband. I was overcome with joy, love, happiness, excitement and emotions, all kind of emotions. This Shavasana moved me to tears. There I lie, listening to all the sweet words by everyone’s loved ones, in complete tears. I left with more gratitude in my heart than I could ever put pen to paper about.

I didn’t expect to stay the entire time, thinking I needed to be home helping my husband run our children’s busy weekend schedule. Yet there was never a moment for me to pull away because I was completely immersed in this world that I didn’t want to ever step out of. Jake encouraged me to stay and reminded me that he was proud of me. Little did I know, he knew a surprise was in store. More importantly, he knew I was exactly where I wanted to be, fully engaged with badass women who are doing some badass things every single day. Epagafoto was there to capture the day, I cannot wait to relive this over again!

Have you ever had a life-changing day … or Shavasana? —Jennifer
