My Experience at Wanderlust 108

Wanderlust.

noun

  1. Strong desire to travel:

“a man consumed by wanderlust”

It has taken me a little trial and error to get into yoga. I’ve wanted to enjoy it, but I haven’t found it fit my needs at the right time. I was reintroduced by my father in law, who practices daily, and even helped me fall in love with hot yoga.

I learned that yoga comes in many forms by attending Wanderlust KC by adidas. The entire event was underscored by DJ Taz Rashid, and it was INSANE!

This Wanderlust is a yoga triathlon. It starts off with a non-competitive 5k. We were pumped up by the popular and competitive emcee, Alli Forsythe. I previously heard of Alli through The Amazing Race. That was a pretty cool start of the program for me!

Following the run we did the most empowering, encouraging, motivating and humbling yoga with Chelsey Korus. I’m pretty sure I left with a woman crush on Chelsey. This practice felt so different than my previous practices. I truly felt grounded, in the moment, and in tune with my personal space and flow through that space of mine. During Chelsey’s encouraging flows, she continued to repeat “It was never mine to carry so I lay it down.” I am not sure why I felt a deep connection to this powerful line, but I did. I hung onto Chelsey’s every word. If I could bottle Chelsey up and listen to her every day and have this same practice, my life would be forever changed. The strength she expresses through her directions made me feel so free and relaxed, and truly in that moment that was all MINE.

The third leg of this triathlon was 30 minutes of meditation with Noah Levine, a Buddhist teacher. I loved the story Noah shared of his past that led him to this moment with us. How his poor choices led him to follow a path his father encouraged — to meditate and find a grounding within himself to allow his mind to gain strength. He was raw and powerful. Noah’s message reminded me to take time to allow my mind to break from the day’s work and connect to myself in a more spiritual way.

Once the triathlon wrapped up, we had time to refuel and check out some open activities. There was hooping, Acroyoga (ummm … what?! I snapped a photo of total strangers. It was more of a #goals moment) and AIReal Yoga. Although these were booked and I was unable to participate, I enjoyed checking each location out and seeing what some of these amazing individuals were capable of.

Wanderlust is a must-do event for anyone looking to branch out in their health and wellness life. It was more than being active; I was mentally engaged, and that is even more important and fulfilling than the physical aspect.

We have a few videos and photos on Instagram at @fitbottomedmama and @Jennydschloz of the day. Check it out and share with us some other events similar to this you’ve attended. We love to be a part of these events and experience them first hand with you!
