What to Do When It Feels Like Winter Will Never End
I feel like I say this every winter, but really. This winter will not quit.
From the polar vortex to blizzards to ice, I’m freezing my everything off.
In case you’re feeling like me, read on for some fun ways to be cozy inside and out — along with a few ways to just pretend winter isn’t happening at all.
How to Be Cozy Outside
Every winter, I think I’m going to go outside and play in the snow, and that I’ll still walk the dog in the cold … and then the polar vortex hits and I’m like, er, where’s the hot cocoa? While I’m still very much like that on most days below freezing, I gotta say that Free Country’s Women’s Vanguard Parka Jacket (which they sent me a couple months ago) honestly wasn’t a look I’d probably have picked out myself, BUT, I’m so glad they sent it because not only do I love how it looks on (apparently I just needed to try a faux fur hood to know that I’d actually fall head over heels for it), but it’s also so warm, so comfortable, and — best of all — so cozy! It’s machine-washable, cuts the wind, and has a really flattering fit (size up if you want it a bit roomier, but I actually liked how streamlined the cut was; plus it kept more of the cold out!).
How to Be Cozy Inside
Free Country also sent me the Butter Pile Fleece Oversize Throw Blanket, and while I thought my family had enough blankets in our home, it turns out we did not, because this is the one we all reach for (and, okay, fine, fight over). It really is buttery soft, super cuddly, and warm. Ours is in the aqua haze color and it also adds a nice pop of color to our living room. Thankfully, it’s large enough to share, too — I can’t imagine how much more we’d fight over it if it wasn’t!
And, don’t forget the slippers! I don’t know what my deal was — it’s been years since I had slippers without holes in them, so this year, I put a pair of slippers on my holiday wish list. And Santa delivered! These are just a basic pair from Target, but seriously, they are saving me this winter! If you haven’t upgraded your slippers in awhile, do it! Life is too short to have drafty slippers.
How to Pretend It’s Summer
You know, sometimes there’s no coat cozy enough or no pair of slippers warm enough to keep you from wanting to give the middle finger to winter. When you’re in that place, I recommend just turning your heat up, putting on some Bob Marley (or this podcast episode), pouring yourself a tropical drink, propping your feet up, and just pretending that it’s warm out.
