7 Easy Healthy Meals and Snacks We’re Testing

healthy snacksI’ve been taste-testing a lot of products around here lately. Scratch that: I’ve been trying to taste-test a lot of products around here lately. With three kids who are incessantly hungry — I feed them, I swear, all day, every day! — and a husband who eats my review products sometimes before I even get to them, I have to really work at getting to try new foods before my family gobbles them up. Here are just a few of the easy healthy meals and on-the-go snacks I’ve munched on lately!

Smart Flour Foods Pizza. Kudos to moms who have homemade meals ready every evening for dinner. Sometimes it’s all I can manage to get a frozen pizza in the oven. At least I (usually) serve a veggie side? No matter — this Smart Flour Foods Pizza will give you a healthier pizza fix in a hurry. We tried both Chicken Sausage pizza with the bold flavors of roasted red peppers, onion, garlic and savory rosemary with sweet chicken sausage, and the Tuscan Inspired Uncured Two Meat with vegetarian-fed and antibiotic-free genoa salami and pepperoni with the subtle, spicy kick of pepperoncini. You’d never know the crispy crust wasn’t chock-full of delicious gluten — and they also go with hormone-free cheeses and nitrate- and nitrite-free meats. Plus the whole grains sorghum, amaranth and teff, give the pizza higher protein, vitamins and minerals than leading conventional and gluten-free brands. Overall a hit with the whole family!

Element Rice Cakes. I don’t know about you, but when I think of rice cakes, I think of a dieter’s snack. A tasteless, low-cal substitute for food. That is no longer the rice cake case when we’re talking about Element’s version. Still dubbed “guiltless” it’s a quick on-the-go option for moms and kids, made tastier with dark and milk chocolate, strawberry yogurt and vanilla orange shells. They’re gluten-free, have no artificial flavors and no preservatives. They’re also crunchy and great for helping kids get by until dinner, and a great way to get a dark chocolate fix that’s lower in cals than downing a whole bar of chocolate.
