Fit Blogger We Love: Tina Haupert of Carrots ‘N’ Cake

When and why did you start your blog? I started my blog on February 3, 2008, (National Carrot Cake Day) as a way to keep myself motivated to get in shape for my wedding day. Never in a million years did I think a little, online journal would become such a huge part of my life.

How did you come up with the name of your blog? When I decided to get fit for my wedding day, I knew I’d never be able to give up desserts (or wine or nachos), so Carrots ‘N’ Cake is all about finding a healthy balance with food— enjoying both the “good” and the “bad.”

What’s the most rewarding thing about blogging? Receiving emails from readers that say that I’ve inspired them to live a healthier life or simply try a new recipe or workout or just made them laugh by seeing photos of my dog on my blog.

What’s the most misunderstood thing about your blog or healthy blogging in general? The most misunderstood thing about my blog or healthy living in general is that there’s a “right” way to be healthy. A lot of people think you need to drink green smoothies, run marathons and wear Lululemon to be healthy, but there’s a zillion other ways to do it. It all just depends on what works for you and makes you happy.

What’s your favorite post and why? I actually have two: How I Beat My Sugar Addiction and Life Advice from Murphy. A couple of years ago, I was truly addicted to sugar. Some days, I’d eat more sugar than “real” food, and it was starting to affect my health. It wasn’t easy to beat my addiction, but I discovered a variety of tactics to wean myself off of sugar, which I share with my readers in this post. My post with life advice from my dog, Murphy, is just fun. A lot of readers seemed to appreciate it, and it’s one of my most read posts to date.

What workouts do you love? My current favorites are CrossFit, running and yoga.

What workouts do you love to hate? I actually kind of love them all, but as I often say with CrossFit: “It doesn’t have to be fun to be fun!”

What single piece of workout apparel could you not live without? I absolutely love my Reebok Nanos for CrossFit. I also love the Lululemon TaTa Tamer. It’s the best sports bra ever!

What’s the most embarrassing song on your workout playlist right now? Anything by Justin Bieber!

What are a few of your fitness confessionsI’m the worst about showering right after a workout. Sometimes it takes me hours before I change out of my sweaty clothes and get in the shower. I’m so gross.

In that case, Tina, we’re super gross, too! Thanks for taking the time to answer our questions, darling! —Jenn
