Fit Fashionistas, This Could Be Your Apparel Line

Remember how a few months ago we highlighted three companies that were bringing high-fashion and cool funkiness to the fitness apparel world? Well, add a new brand to the mix: Colosseum MCMXCII. They recently sent us a number of pieces to try and, like whoa. (And, dudette, between this and the recent sleek Brooks Running gear, we’re going sooo high-fashion lately!)

Colosseum’s online shop won’t be launched until January, but you can find its goodies in many states and in Canada. The high-fashion brand that’s designed for “the active fashionista” sent us a number of pieces to try: a pair of long black tights with a maroon stripe running down the side, a matching maroon racer-back tank, a somewhat abstract angular cream sweatshirt-y top and a super-cute black cropped jacket. The whole brand’s purpose — like so many fitness apparel companies these days — is to let you move seamlessly from workouts to life without a wardrobe change. And, without a doubt, you do that not just with comfort and function, but with style. Lots of style.

Maybe a touch too much style for us. While I would wear the tights (the stripe down the side makes them super slimming) and tank (a little unforgiving in the middle, but a really nice cut and feel) just about anywhere, the sweatshirt-y top was a mix between a rock star jacket and a straight-jacket that I’m not sure I’m quite cool enough to pull off (very Stella McCartney). The cropped jacket was super cute though, and something I’d definitely throw on, even with jeans.

But if you take a look at some of Colosseum’s other pieces, you can see the general high-fashion feel I’m talking about here. (I generally don’t hang around my house like this.)

Looks and high-fashion aside, what I do really like about this line is that they do function well. With everything from UV protection to anti-odor technology to moisture management, strategic ventilation and anti-chafing seams (plus all the tags are easily removable — woot!), they’re definitely designed for you to move in. Maybe not for a long training run or  a super intense WOD, but they are fantastic for walking, Pilates, yoga, dance, barre and most other studio-type classes or workouts. The fabrics feel good and are high quality, going for $25 to $100 per piece. A really great option for those who love fashion and are wanting to bring that fashionista vibe to all areas of their lives.
