Workout I Did: Cardio Push Workout

Looking for a good cardio workout that gets your heart rate up but also works your core and your upper-body in kind of a sneaky way? Yep, that’s the workout I just did at The Fit Pit — and I’m sharing it today!

Now, for this — what I’m calling the “Cardio Push Workout” — I had to make some modifications. With my pregnancy, clearly rope climbs are out and so are pull-ups, so I did body rows instead. I can still manage burpees okay (although my jump at top is tiny and I step back out and in with an almost comically wide stance), and I opted for jump rope singles over double-unders. I’m not running fast these days, but I am still able to run pretty comfortably. Hooray! As my “then,” I subbed sit-ups with just some basic squats, because, well, I am preparing for the WOD of my life and those are kind of the go-to most-important move for that. The entire thing took me about 26 minutes.

If you’re a beginner, feel free to do this workout with modifications similar to what I did plus subbing walking for running — it’s a great way to take the intensity down a notch while still getting a fabulous workout. And, if you’re an intermediate or advanced exerciser, rock out the full version (although the pull-up substitution is great if you don’t have access to a rope — which, you know, most of us don’t at home or in your typical health club!).

    I am remiss to admit that my dedication to exercise is not what it should be. I believe, I would do far better if I could participate in team sports, but due to a botched knee surgery from when I was 15 this has never been possible. I have just recommitted and joined a gym today, I am just not good at doing things alone…too easy to quit after 3 minutes.

    So encouraged by your post.

    Ummmmm….. at the risk of sounding clueless (I am totally clueless) what is a double under????

      Hehe, Susan! Double-unders are a jump-rope move. Instead of doing a jump when the rope passes under you one time, a double-under is when you jump once and the rope goes round you TWO times! 🙂 More info here: http://dailyburn.com/life/fitness/crossfit-workouts-double-unders/

      It’s hard to get the hang of, but once you do, it’s a great high-intensity move! Happy double-undering! 😉
