A Very Hairy Workout Thought

GoodHairDayI often have a fabulous hair day the morning after I do my hair. It’s sleeker, bouncier and overall, just better. And, well, I like to take advantage of a good hair day by…well, maybe by just going to the grocery store or running some errands. But you know what I do not like to do on a really amazing hair day? Get sweaty.

I was chatting with some girlfriends the other day about this; we got to talking about whether we’ve ever skipped a workout because our hair was done, and, sure enough, that was absolutely the case for everyone. I mean, it sounds a little lame to put it so plainly, but after I’ve spent a couple of hours at the hairstylist, I hate to waste my brand new ‘do on a sweaty ponytail!

This probably shouldn’t have surprised me as much as it did. I mean, I’ve been growing my hair out for the past year for the express purpose of being able to put it in a pony without two elastics, four barrettes and a headband. (And yes, it’s finally there, thanks for asking.) Longer hair is not my best look, admittedly, but it’s easier to be able to throw it all in an elastic rather than worry about braiding back my bangs or soaking the entire back of my hair with sweat because it won’t reach a ponytail. So, while I’ve been training for races, longer hair was the easier choice, even though shorter hair is way cuter with my hair texture and bone structure. A good friend of mine hasn’t colored her hair in ages because she spends so much time in the pool and doesn’t want to worry about how the chlorine will affect her highlights.

Of course, now I’m super curious. How many of you have let a good hair day dictate your workout? And, perhaps even more importantly, how many of you let your exercise habits dictate your haircut? —Kristen
