Where Are They Now? The Biggest Loser’s Gina McDonald
What are you up to now? I am back to work full-time running my law firm and handling bankruptcy and family law cases across Central Alabama. I have accepted board positions with the American Society for Suicide Prevention and the Mike Jezdmir Transverse Myletis Foundation. I am spokesperson for the Birmingham Chapter of the American Heart Association and will be emceeing their annual “Go Red” fashion show Oct 6. I am doing motivational speaking. Today, I spoke to more than 200 incoming freshmen at Cumberland University in Lebanon, Tenn. I am working with Biggest Loser Resorts on a promotion to have one lucky winner travel to Malibu, Calif., to work out with me for a week in October. I have various speaking engagements scheduled until the end of 2013. I will be participating in The Biggest Loser Run/Walk in Panama City, Fla., on Dec 29. I will be running my first half marathon.
What’s the No. 1 thing you’ve learned since leaving the ranch? The No. 1 thing I have learned is that you cannot stop doing what you learned on the ranch. There are no short cuts. I still have to measure my food and count calories. I still have to eat healthy and exercise. I still use BodyMedia to help me with this task. When I don’t use it as a tool, I fail. I have learned that this journey at home is more challenging than I could have ever imagined.
What advice would you give the current BL contestants? Prepare yourself for re-entry. Being on the show is a fabulous gift, but when the cameras stop rolling and you go home, be prepared to keep doing the work. And be prepared to feel like the world is watching you and waiting for you to gain it all back. You will gain some weight back, and it will drive you crazy. Most of the cast from Season 14 have expressed these same feelings! The contestants of Season 15 will HAVE to become each other’s lifeline. Only they truly know what it is like to be a contestant on BL and survive at home. Band together folks!
