The Ultimate Superfood List

During the holidays, it’s easy to slip into unhealthy habits — snacking on the treats a bit too much and neglecting other super healthy foods. That’s why I love this superfood list infographic from Cassie Brewer. Cassie is a reader and fan (love those!) who is excited to share this awesome reminder about the many, many awesomely healthy choices out there. Plus, this list is so fun your kids might even like to look at all of the superhero foods!

We all know exactly what we should be feeding our kids on a daily basis, right? We have read the books, studied the labels and compared the brands. We know how much fiber they should get on a daily basis, what kinds of fats they should be eating and where to find those surprisingly high amounts of sugar where we really wish they weren’t (darn you, Capri Suns!).

But as we take care of our kids, are we really taking care of ourselves? While our children’s health is very important — as the diet is pivotal in the first 10 to 15 years of life when developing healthy eating habits, strong bones and unstoppable immune systems — do you take the same amount of care for your own diet? Have you ever found yourself packing lunches, sauteing vegetables, and chopping up carrot sticks for your children — with half of a granola bar stuck in your mouth?

For mothers, diet still holds an incredibly important role in our longevity and quality of life. As we get older, our bones weaken, our skin dries and our muscles tire. Many mothers start letting their own nutrition fall to the wayside as they focus entirely on their kids, and less and less on themselves. As understandable as this is, mothers are in need of the same scrupulous nutrition as their kids, especially when children mimic the eating habits of their parents. This means that if you let your busy schedule get in the way of your own eating habits, your children might find themselves doing the same in the long run.

Thankfully, studies have compiled a comprehensive list of the foods that will take care of all of that and more — the superfoods. These veggies, fruits and grains have innumerable benefits, from giving you glowing skin to fighting cancer. But best of all, they give you a strong, healthy body that will stay energetic for years to come. Implementing these foods even in small portions — like sprinkling some blueberries into your oatmeal or tossing in some kale with your salad — can make a world of a difference. The smallest steps can be enough of a start to gradually shift your entire diet into a better, more substantial level of nutrition.
