No Gap About It: My Thighs Are BFFs (And I Like It)

gap-585

Whenever I hear the term “thigh gap,” I cringe. Whenever I hear anything on social media about the extremes that young girls are going to just to have that gap — that little bit of light shine through — crushes me. It makes me want to scream and yell and shake them. The truth is, I used to be one of those girls. I used to want to see daylight between my thighs, and I used to want to be thinner than the girl next to me. The older I get, and the wiser I get, the more I learn to appreciate my body and love myself. I’ve realized that some women naturally have a thigh gap — and that for some, it will never be a healthy goal. And we can learn a few things from our bodies. Instead of looking in the mirror, as I’ve done for YEARS, wishing for something different, I chose to look in the mirror and appreciate myself and my thighs. I don’t need approval from social media; I don’t need a silly thigh gap. Instead, I choose thigh-love over any body negativity.

Reasons I Don’t Need a Thigh Gap

1. My thighs are never alone; they always have someone to talk to.

2. It’s like a 24/7 playdate, no bookings necessary.

3. They will always complement one another.

4. No one ever feels left out.

5. They’re like twins, but better — there’s never any jealousy.

6. I bet they keep the best secrets.

7. They are one of the most important factors in the support system when it comes to supporting a baby- in utero and on the hip!

8. They say “I am a natural…. Womannnnnn.”

We’ve all been there, each and every one of us. We’ve looked at ourselves in the mirror and wished for something better — to be thinner, have a smaller nose, bigger (or smaller) breasts, give up that arm jiggle. Health and fitness is not just about the pretty picture; it’s about connecting our mind with our body and being strong. Strong can mean many things, you just have to decide for yourself what strong means to you.

I challenge you to take a look in the mirror and make a list of gratitude. Choose to view what you see as beauty and strength.
