This is Sparta!!!

spartan race, this is sparta, race, 5k, barbwire crawl, obstacle course run, malibu racesYes, I’m crazy. I have no earthly idea why I get myself into the pickles I do, but I blame it on all of you. I love all things Fit Bottomed Girls. I love the culture and the stories. I love the feeling I get from belonging to such a snazzy group of empowered women (because after all, that’s what we all are.) We’re the girls who tell the world we’re ready to love and honor our precious fit bottoms. That feeling is addicting and uncontrollable and it shows up in the craziest of places. That’s where my latest crazy adventure comes in.

I’m participating in a ridiculously fun event called the Spartan Race. This December, I, along with three other teammates, will participate in the most creative and goofy race I’ve ever heard of. It’ll be three miles of adventure, covering everything from running, crawling under barb wire, jumping over fire, and stomping through mud. When the site says this is a race for those tired of the regular races and workouts, they’re not kidding!

I’m excited to try something new. How many times in your life have you thought, “If I have to jump over one more fire, I’m going to throw up in my mouth a little bit”? You don’t, because fire jumping is unique and totally bad-ass. The training involved for the race is the perfect jolt if your workouts are feeling a tad monotonous, too.

My team training is a bit silly and crazed, but I figure when in Greece, har har. We have been meeting every Wednesday for an hour of torture with a trainer. We run sprints, we run hills, we lift medicine balls and throw them to our partner as we jog up and down a field. We do pushups and pull-ups. We almost throw up EVERY.SINGLE.TIME.

Some of you are probably thinking I’m a crazy loon who has gone too far, but it’s hilarious to watch the likes of us (a mixture of guys and girls—not just my team) grunting and panting, taking breaks, tripping, fumbling and laughing our butts off.

Why not try something crazy? Why not make a fool out of yourself in the name of fitness? Why not become a Spartan? I can’t wait to yell the now infamous 300 line, “This is Spartaaa” as I cross the finish line. Why not have an adventure? —Tish
