Ahnu Shoes That Got Me to Run

ahnu As I’ve mentioned previously, I’m not a runner. But occasionally I do like to embrace my inner runner-wannabe and force myself to do it. I always think that like picky eaters, maybe if I’m exposed enough times, I’ll eventually fall in love. Or at least not totally dislike it.

Ahnu recently passed along its Sausalito running shoe to try to tempt me into running love. The shoe touts a minimalistic appeal, with less material and bulk to get runners closer to the ground for a more natural stride. I forced myself to hit the bumpy sidewalks with my jogging stroller to give the shoes a thorough test. I’ll say that the only thing that went well during my run was the shoe. The baby hated the bumpy jogging stroller, so I had to slow way down at any approaching bump, and I even found a massive ant in my shirt once I got home. But the shoes? They were lightweight yet supportive and gave me enough cushion to feel comfortable without being too bulky. They do feel thinner and lighter—more like this Nike trainer than a more substantial running shoe.

What I love most about the Sausalito (besides the name—ever been to glorious Sausalito? You’ll see why!) is its slightly retro-yet-modern look and the fun color choices. And because of that look, I’ve made these shoes my perfect everyday errand-running and sometimes real running shoes. And by the by, some of this company’s hiking shoe choices seriously make me want to hit the trails. —Erin
