It would be an understatement to say that there has been a lot of talk and hype about high-fructose corn syrup lately. But this latest bit of research out of Princeton University is curious to say the least. Researchers there found that rats with access to high-fructose corn syrup gained significantly more weight than those critters who had access to table sugar—even when their overall caloric intake was the same.
Yes, rats are not people. And, not surprisingly, the The Corn Refiners Association quickly issued a statement aimed at the study’s errors after its publication. We preach all things in moderation around these parts, but I think I’ll continue to moderate my intake of high-fructose corn syrup even more. Corn farmers have no fear, I eat a ridiculous amount of popcorn to make up for my decreased corn-syrup consumption.
