A Recipe for Clean Pizza—It Is Possible!

Cleanpizza585Now, all I am asking from the FBGs out there is to have an open mind, because it IS possible to have clean pizza. While I was traveling back and forth to Georgia, I came upon this clean pizza recipe originally made by Toni Cisnero—it literally made me scream with excitement! And, yes, it is the beautiful food that combines cheese, bread and meat!
Now before you start jumping up and down in your chair, one of that trio is actually not included in this recipe…dun, dun, dunnn—bread! I know, I know. How is it possible to have all that delicious goodness without bread? Before you start thinking: “Well, I’ll never make this then,” take a glance below and try it! Remember what your friends say: “Don’t knock it ‘til you try it!”—pizza that is.

A Few Notes on This Clean Pizza Recipe

1. You’re more than welcome to use any type of cheese you’d like, or could even go without the tomato sauce to create a white pizza. The options are endless!
2. For those of you who can’t get over the idea of meat as crust (or are a vegetarian), I know it can be a challenge. Here are some wonderful brands that make crust tasty and affordable for your waistline:

  • Santa Fe Tortilla Factory: One Homestyle Whole Grain Tortilla has 100 calories, 3.5 grams of fat, 13 grams of carbohydrates, 7 grams of dietary fiber (whoa!), no sugar, and 8 grams of protein.
  • Joseph’s: One Flax, Oat Bran, & Whole Wheat Lavash Wrap has 100 calories, 4 grams of fat, 14 grams of carbs, 6 grams of dietary fiber, no sugar and 10 grams of protein. Many of Joseph’s other wraps and pitas have similar nutritional profiles that make them perfect crust options.

(With all these wraps and tortillas, make sure to not smother on the tomato sauce unless you’re looking for a soggy pizza.)
