Food Fight: Simple Squares vs. Chi Bar

food-fight-chi-bar-simple-squares
It’s time for another epic Food Fight! This time we’re pitting Simple Squares and Chi Bar head-to-head for a fantastic fit-foodie fight (say that three times fast)!

Taste and Texture

Simple Squares: A solid square bar, these are chunkier than your usual nutrition bar. A little bit chewy, yet soft and just a little crumbly, you can see all of the ingredients in the bar—and it’s fun to chew them up. In super foodie flavor combos like Sage Honey, Rosemary Honey, Cinna-Clove, Coffee and Ginger, these have a strong yet not overly sweet flavor that tastes just like fresh ingredients. Freakin’ love.
Chi Bar: A little bit like a Larabar with more nuts, these bars are solid and you can see the whole ingredients in them. Soft and filling, they come in fruit-based flavors like Papaya Pineapple, Cacoa Cherry and our two favorites: and Mango Ginger and Berry Berry. These are pretty sweet, but not overly so, and they’re filling. Definitely fruity!
Winner: While both are good, we simply have to give it to Simple Squares. I mean, flavors like Sage Honey and Cinna-Clove in a snack bar? Heck to the yes! And they are super CRAVEABLE.

Nutritional Facts

Simple Squares: Each Simple Square has about 230 calories, 17 grams of fat (the healthy kind), 95 milligrams of sodium, 3 grams of fiber, 10 grams of sugar and 6 grams of protein—plus 1o percent of your iron needs.
Chi Bar: A Chi Bar has 210 calories, 11 grams of fat (also the healthy kind), 65 milligrams of sodium, 4 grams of fiber, 17 grams of sugar and 6 grams of protein—plus 8 percent of your iron needs and 4 percent of your calcium for the day.
Winner: This is a super close one! And although we do like that the Chi Bar has fewer calories and less sodium, Simple Squares’ lower sugar gives it the edge!

Ingredient List

Simple Squares: With a super simple (as one might expect with a name like “Simple Squares”) ingredient list, we have not a thing to complain about. The Sage Honey simply lists organic cashews, almonds, honey, unsweetened coconut, vanilla, sea salt and sage. No wheat, refined sugar, dairy or soy—and it’s all raw. Can’t beat that. Or can you…?
Chi Bar: With a slightly longer yet equally clean ingredient list, the Chi Bar also rocks. Made of organic nuts, seeds, fig paste, banana chips and other fruits, evaporated cane juice, hemp seeds, pomegranate concentrate and sea salt, the Chi Bar is also free of wheat, refined sugar, dairy or soy—and non-GMO. Love!
Winner: We call a tie. Both are clean, organic, full of healthy fats and fruits, and equally amazing.

And the Food Fight Champion Is…

You cannot go wrong with either one of these. Seriously. They’re both a great whole-food snack for on the go. That said, we give the slight edge to Simple Squares for the reduced sugar and fabulously delicious unique flavors. A big thanks to both companies for letting us try and for making a healthy snack for all! You rock!
