Review: Bid Potato Chips Adieu With Kashi’s Hummus Crisps Flavor Debut

Kashi always has some interesting snack options and its new all-natural Hummus Crisps are no exception. Made with ingredients like chickpeas (that’s where the “hummus” comes in) and the company’s signature 7 Whole Grain blend, they’re available in three different flavors — Sea Salt & Olive Oil, Sundried Tomato, Basil & Feta, and Caramelized Onion — and we taste-tested ’em all!

Sea Salt and Olive Oil

Holy guacamole! The Sea Salt and Olive Oil Hummus Crisps taste exactly like sea salt, and you can even taste the olive oil, which was a shocker for me. (How do they do that?!) So, if you have ever fallen for sea salt-and-vinegar potato chips, look no further! Light and airy with a serving size of — hold on to your fit butts — 27 crisps, these have 120 calories, 3 grams of protein and 4 grams of fiber. No reason to feel any shame in chowin’ down.

Sundried Tomato, Basil & Feta

And first place in the taste department goes to……….. Sundried Tomato, Basil & Feta! I admit I might be a little biased due to the fact that feta is one of my favorite cheeses, sun-dried tomatoes are always on my salads, and I rarely make soup without basil, but this awesome flavor bomb only has 120 calories per serving, 4 grams of protein, and 4 grams of fiber (a snack worth trying). Best thing about these crisps though is that you can taste EVERY ingredient! As an avid lover of any type of potato chips, that is saying something. Oh, and if you enjoy Mimi’s Café’s tomato basil soup or can’t get enough of light airy snacks with flavor, you may just be enamored with these babies, too.

Caramelized Onion

Someone always has to come in last place — whether it’s me in a softball game or the Cubs — but I still feel a little regret saying that these crisps were probably my least favorite. Okay, they were definitely my least favorite in the taste department. The easiest way to describe the Caramelized Onion Hummus Crisps is as a healthier version of Funyuns. You can definitely taste the caramelized onion, which is kind of sharp and loaded with flavor (a little too strong for me). So if you’re diggin’ and missin’ fried caramelized onions in your healthy diet, you will probably love these bad boys. With only 120 calories, 3 grams of protein and 4 grams of fiber, they’re certainly flavorful and waaay healthier than Funyuns, their flavor twin.

I loved two out of three of these Hummus Crisps, which speaks for itself. After all, I can be in the dressing room for an hour with 15 different outfits and only come out with one top and two maybes. So, if you need a light snack on the go, grab a handful of these, put em’ in a resealable bag (so as to not eat the entire bag), and you are ready to get snacking!
We’re always lookin’ for some great new munchies. What snack get your taste buds singin’? —Maria
