Food Fight: Two High-Protein Chips Go Head to Head

protein chips food fight collage

Love chips? Wish they had more protein and were more natural? Well, your chip-loving prayers have been answered … we have not one but two options for you: ips Egg White Chips and ProTings*. And in this Food Fight we’re pitting them head to head to see which is more Fit Bottomed!

Taste and Texture

ips Egg White Chips: These are little bits of airy heaven. Kind of like PopChips but softer (almost a stale-like texture of Corn Pops cereal but not gross — yep, that’s possible), these are light and crunchy. Not like your traditional potato chip at all but still really satisfying, these come in four yummy flavors: Sea Salt and Black Pepper (spicy from the black pepper — our favorite variety), Aged White Cheddar (cheesy, but not super cheesy), Barbeque (more sweet than zesty — wish it had a bit more flavor) and Cinnamon Sugar (consider these dessert — like a light sopapilla). A little something for everyone!
ProTings: More like a really crunchy and really broken up super thin flatbread or cracker, these kind of crumbly chips start out with bold flavor but then leave ya with an … aftertaste. We tried the Tangy Southern BBQ and the Chili Lime and both started off awesome with large hits of sweet barbeque and chili-lime taste, but that quickly dissipated and your tastebuds were left with just mushy chewing. Having a few of them in a row helped build and intensify flavor, but it also left you with a slightly charred taste — almost like they were overbaked or a little burnt. On the plus side, they do fill you up.
Winner: ips Egg White Chips takes it! While ProTings aren’t bad per say, they’re just more of an acquired taste while ips Egg White Chips are totally craveable, any time.

Nutritional Facts

ips Egg White Chips: Each 1-ounce bag of these has roughly 130 calories, 7 grams of protein, 4 grams of fat, 14 grams of carbs, less than 1 gram of fiber and just a couple grams of sugar (the Cinnamon Sugar has 3 grams).
ProTings: A 1.2-ounce bag of ProTings clocks in at 150 calories, 15 grams of protein, 4 grams of fat, 12 grams of carbs, 3 grams of fiber and only 1 gram of sugar.
Winner: ProTings gets this one! Although ips Egg White Chips have fewer calories, we cannot ignore the fact that ProTings has more than double the protein and the fiber, with less sugar. That’s always a win in our book!

Ingredient List

ips Egg White Chips: These have a darn clean ingredient list. All-natural, gluten-free and non-GMO with no artificial colors, flavors or preservatives, there’s nothing weird about ’em.
ProTings: Also all-natural and gluten-free, these are made with pea protein and superfood flaxseeds. The ingredient list might be a touch longer than the ips Egg White Chips, but it’s still darn clean.
Winner: This one is sooo close. The pea protein and flaxseeds almost get it, but we’re giving ips Egg White Chips the slight edge for being a touch cleaner and non-GMO!

And the Food Fight Champion Is…

The winner is ips Egg White Chips! While both are healthy snacks, ips Egg White Chips have our chip-loving hearts!
*Edited to add: ProTings has made a few updates since this food fight took place, and the updates rock. So everyone’s a winner in this face off!
