Pet Fitness Tips: Our Fave Pet Writers Talk Furry Fitness

caroline golon

Caroline Golon: Caroline from Crayons and Collars is the cat mom of two felines and two active little girls, so, naturally, she writes about life with pets and children (and she’s great about sharing inspirational kids-and-animals stories!). “For me, working out is good introspective time,” she say. “I just feel better and happier in general, both physically and mentally, when I get my regular workout in. It’s also like a creative wellspring! I come up with my best ideas at the gym.” (We can totally relate to that.)

When it comes to getting her cats to move, she’s pretty realistic.

“There are plenty of cats whose only exercise is running to the food bowl, but we’ve found that play is the best way to get our cats some cardio.  Because cats won’t do anything just because we want them to (shocker), finding things they enjoy is the best way to get their furry butts out of the sun puddles.

“One of our cats, Pugsley, loves wand toys. I have my 5-year-old daughter run through the house holding the wand so Pugsley can chase her. My other cat, Romeo, just looks at Pugsley like he’s an idiot, so I have to try different things to get Romeo excited. One day he’s all into the jingle ball, the next day it’s a piece of wadded up paper, another day it’s a catnip mousey thing.

“We try to do something every day, even if it’s just for a few minutes!”
