We know “need” is a strong word, but if you’re an ice-cream addict, you just gotta try these healthy frozen treats!


For me, nothing says comfort food more than ice cream. But, come on, we all know that eating ice cream on the daily isn’t so great for us. But, wait! There are so many healthier frozen treats out there that are sooo good. Unlike the low-fat or frozen-yogurt products of yesteryear that were pretty much just bland, unfulfilling sweetness, these new ice creams and sorbets have flavor, creaminess and serious health benefits. Check out four of our new fave healthy frozen treats — they’re totally healthy comfort food!

4 Healthy Frozen Treats

1. Acai Roots Organic Acai Sorbet. You probably know acai as a superfood, but ever tried it in a sorbet? Surprisingly rich and creamy, the Acai Roots Organic Acai Sorbet has a deep, sweet yet almost savory flavor (it’s really unique — so give it a few tries if you’ve never had it before) that comes from wild-harvested acai berries from the Brazilian Amazon. Packed with omegas 3, 6 and 9 and antioxidants (we’re talking 3,500 ORACs in every scoop), it’s tasty with a few chocolate chips on top or blended up in a smoothie.
2. Dannon Oikos Frozen Greek Yogurt. John Stamos loves Dannon Oikos Greek Frozen Yogurt — and so do we. Creamy, rich and sweet with just a little bit of the tang you love in your Greek yogurt, these are insanely delicious. Available in pint-sized containers of Vanilla, Chocolate, Strawberry, Café Latte, Black Cherry and Key Lime, we simply can’t pick a fave. So don’t make us! All are fresh, delicious and have 6 to 7 grams of protein per half-cup serving. If you love ice cream and Greek yogurt, this healthy frozen treat will become a staple in your freezer!
3. DF Mavens. Seeing that dairy and I don’t always play nice together, I’m always on the lookout for dairy-free ice cream options. And while sorbet is awesome (see No. 1 above!), sometimes a girl just wants something a bit more dairy-like. And this is exactly where DF MAVENS delivers, big time. Dairy-free and offered in soy, coconut and almond (oh, the choices!), this line of ice cream is gluten-free, does not contain preservatives or cholesterol and is kosher. 4. Arctic Zero. We once declared Arctic Zero the best ice cream ever for the protein-loving set, and now that they have three new flavors out — Orange, Sea Salt Caramel and Coconut — we couldn’t be more certain of that. While these aren’t exactly creamy and have the consistency of more of a frosty malt than traditional ice cream, they taste great (especially the Sea Salt Caramel — stay tuned tomorrow for when we share a milkshake recipe using it that’s awesomesauce!) and they only have 150 calories for an ENTIRE PINT. Plus, each pint also has 14 grams of whey protein and 8 grams of fiber. Yeah, it’s pretty much a healthy frozen dessert you can have as a post-workout snack.
