Color Me Beautiful: How to Find What Colors You Look Best in

Finding Your Way Through The Rainbow

Don’t discount the power of color. A perfectly tailored dress will leave you looking lifeless if its hue fails to flatter. Those who use color to their advantage appear more vibrant, positive and confident, which in turn makes them more attractive.

The correct color palette has the ability to make you look as if you knocked out a 6 a.m. run even if you just tumbled out of bed. It can trick the eye and make your legs look longer, your skin clearer and your not-so-perfect body parts smaller or larger, whatever the case may be.

Chances are you have a more than a few things in your closet that have never see the light of day. Each time you pop that navy knit over your auburn locks you appear to have aged five years; and although you love its cozy warmth, you’d rather freeze then wear it. Assuming the fit is correct, the same sweater in olive could be your new best friend.

To find your personal palette, sort your clothes into groups of color. Take the stacks into natural light and, one at a time, hold the color against your face. Does that powder blue make your eyes pop or do you look like you need to take a nap? How about the royal blue, better or worse? Be subjective. Don’t choose a color simply because you like it or favor the article of clothing in general.

The idea is not to discount an entire color but instead to find the shade or tone that works for you. I look truly awful in apricot, but am one of the few that can rock orange without looking clownish. Shopping with your color palette in tow makes life much simpler. I never waste time trying on khaki, no matter how much the item in question appeals. I know it won’t work.
