Salted: Learn to Cook From Master Chefs

salted-585
The number of times I’ve had an amazing meal and said to my husband, “I’m definitely going to take a cooking class in [enter cuisine of choice here]” has to be close to 15 or 20.
Number of times I’ve actually signed up and attended a cooking class? Zip.
I have a million reasons, of course, but the two major ones are 1) class times or locations are inconvenient (meaning they have an actual set time and location that’s not entirely up to moi) and 2) I figure they’ll teach too many things I don’t care about learning (or already know how to do) and it seems like a waste.
But my friends, there’s a new type of cooking school in town, and it puts every single one of my concerns to rest. It’s Salted, and it’s a subscription-based online cooking school featuring recipes, classes and full courses from 75 talented (and well-known) chefs. Salted features gorgeous (and super informative) videos with detailed step-by-step instructions. In fact, they even make it super easy to jump to just the part of a video tutorial you need if the written instructions aren’t quite cutting it for you. You can save your favorite recipes and courses, search for instructions and inspiration by ingredient, type of cuisine, mood or chef, and there’s new content added regularly. You can even reach out with a question using the Chef Hotline — if you’re a member, you’ll get an answer within 24 hours, and if you’re not a member, within 48.
Courses are available on topics ranging from Thanksgiving Classics, The Ultimate Vegetarian Starter Course and Getting Creative With Paleo Cuisine to Vegan Mexican Cooking and All About the Avocado. Videos teaching recipes and skills are marked as easy, intermediate and advanced, so whether you’re seeking a basic overview of kitchen equipment (easy) or how to make homemade beef and lamb bacon (advanced), you’ll find something to challenge your current culinary skill set. You can search by chef, too — they’ve got a great lineup and have clearly marked what each chef’s specialty is (sandwiches, Asian fusion, eco-friendly/seasonal), so even if you’re not familiar with any to start with, you’ll have no trouble zeroing in on the best fit for you. And when you find things you want to keep handy (courses, recipes, etc.), you can save them to your own personal Salted cookbook for easy reference.
Membership is pretty affordable, starting at $9.99 a month with discounted rates available for longer memberships. You can buy it for someone else as a gift, too, which I think is going to make some people I know very happy come the holiday season this year.
What type of cuisine or skill do you most want to learn? I’ve got this one queued up right now.Kristen
