5 Fit Reasons to Love Fall

fallfavorites-585It’s the most wonderful time of the year. Maybe I’m biased with an October birthday, but fall is my absolute favorite. With cooler but not cold weather, the turning leaves and the ability to get the fireplace going again, it brings such a distinct cozy feeling with it. Now that you’ve settled into more of a routine with the school year in full swing, make sure you’re wringing out the maximum enjoyment from autumn with our five reasons to love fall.

1. Fun family workouts. Fall is a great time to get the whole family outside and active. The weather is cool but not yet cold, so it’s more comfortable for everyone. Corn mazes, raking leaves (and jumping in them), hiking and simply going for walks to collect fall leaves are all great activities for family fun. And hey, trick-or-treating forces you to get walking, right?

2. Weather perfection. You may have packed away the summer clothes and already embraced the cozy sweaters and boots that become standard uniform in the fall. Make sure you’re stocked up on running tights and clothing you can layer to keep getting outside in the cool-weather months. Continuing to get a daily dose of sunshine and outdoor activity can help stave off any seasonal blues that try to sneak up on you.

3. Harvest time. Hitting the pumpkin patch is so much fun with kids, but don’t stop at the gourds. Find a nearby orchard or farm where you can pick other in-season items like apples. It’s great exercise, a fantastic way to enjoy the weather, and your kids will love getting to see how their food grows.

4. Fall flavors. Fall just demands pumpkin and cinnamon and spice, doesn’t it? If you’ve got pumpkin and are itching to use it, check out these 15 ways to use it to fuel your obsession.

5. Drinks. Pumpkin spice lattes, anyone? Check out our homemade version to get maximum healthy enjoyment out of this delicious beverage. More of a hard cider kind of gal? You’re welcome.
