Workout Schedule: What’s Your Best Day?

workout schedule

I don’t actually wear pink on Wednesdays (at least not on purpose). I also don’t usually hit a cycling class. I do, however, follow a bit of a workout schedule. How about you?

I’m pretty hard to beat on a Tuesday.

I don’t know if it’s due to all the time I’ve spent on a training and workout schedule for triathlons or if it has more to do with classes and workout groups I try not to miss, but I tend to have the same good — and the same bad — workout days on most weeks. Tuesdays I’m nearly unstoppable, often hitting a swim class early on, leaving immediately after work to fit in some of the strength work I was given to keep my knees in working order, and, as soon as I’m done there, walking from my gym over to the Tuesday night group run starting line to get in three miles.

And even on Tuesdays when I don’t go to swim class or a group run, it tends to be a better workout day than many other days during the week. On the other hand (and possibly related), Mondays and Wednesdays are generally really light. Saturdays and Sundays tend to be pretty active, often with some sort of longer, aerobic activity (although I just started attending a Sunday night hip hop class that I’m kiiind of into), and what’s that leave? Thursday and Friday? Those are what I’d consider normal — usually I put in 30 minutes to an hour, maybe a bit more depending on social plans on Friday night.

Anyway, it got me thinking about workout schedules. I like having a few things planned out each week, but I’m also appreciating the fact that, although I have a bit more flexibility than I did prior to my Augusta race on most weekdays, I’m still staying active and getting in some good workouts. It’s not a rigid workout schedule, but it still exists, even if it’s only in my mind.

What about you? Do you have a set workout schedule based on classes or appointments? Do you follow a looser workout schedule? Or do you just do whatever feels good on any given day? How does that work for you, and is there anything you’d like to change? —Kristen

  1. I have set workout schedule for every day but on Sunday, I don’t workout. Sunday is my relaxing day.

I am amazing on Wednesday and Friday, mostly b/c I have an amazing fitness instructor who does a strength and sculpt/spin class combo. Because I like her so much, I’ll do both classes and get in a double workout on both days. And actually, since I’m getting used to doing 120 minutes 2x/week, it’s making my regular workouts seem easier b/c they seem so short and doable. Everything is relative!

So true — the relativity thing has hit me in a big way this year. Back in 2009, I *NEVER* would’ve said “I’m *just* running five miles today,” but now, that’s my reality because usually that run is accompanied by a bike or strength work or something else. It’s pretty cool!

  3. I don’t workout on all days. Only 3 days in a week. Wed, Thur and Friday. But , to get desired results, it’s better to consult a professional. My friend suggested me to visit TrueResultsFitness Markham Bootcamp. I had a wonderful and funfilled experience there.
