St. Patrick’s Day Workout Playlist

The Wanted, “Glad You Came” (3:18). This song from The Wanted is the perfect warm-up tune to get you in the mood to work out on the treadmill, elliptical or recumbent bike.

U2, “City of Blinding Lights” (5:48). The second most popular Irish export (after Guinness, of course) is U2, and they wrote this beautiful and energetic song to honor New York City after the September 11 attacks. Try not to feel your spirit lift as Bono sings “Oh, you look so beautiful — tonight!”

The Cranberries, “Dreams” (4:32). If you are ready to incorporate some sprints, here is your opportunity with singer Dolores O’Riordan’s bellowing voice to guide you!

Sinéad O’Connor, “Mandinka” (3:49). The Irish firebrand is often now in the press for her provocative views and beefs with young celebs like Miley Cyrus, but this woman is a fantastic singer first and foremost.

Van Morrison, “Jackie Wilson Said” (2:59). If this song fails to get you in the mood to move, check your pulse! This is one of the stand-out tunes from a venerated master of pop songs.

The Sundays, “Here is Where the Story Ends” (3:55). Indulge your inner “Lilith Fair” spirit with this gem from 1990 that is soulful and motivating.

Hozier, “Take Me to Church” (4:00). Speaking of 1990 — that happens to be the year that Grammy-winning phenomenon Hozier was born in County Wicklow. What is there to say about this song except that it is next-to-impossible NOT to sing along to the chorus when it is played anywhere. (Just try to restrain yourself!)

And here is the St. Patrick’s Day workout playlist on Spotify! (Sorry we couldn’t get the original Van Morrison version of “Jackie Wilson Said”!)
