In the Hot, Hot Sun

Erin and I love the sun. With its warmth and brightness, it just makes a girl feel cheery. However, we all know that if you love the sun too much it burns you, literally. And as someone with skin the color of soy milk (even that might be a little too colorful for me), I really have to watch my time in the sun. If I go to the beach you can usually find me slathering on SPF 45, with a hat on, under an umbrella, asking you if I look burnt from that quick dip in the waves.

Self magazine recently put out a fun little series on staying safe on the sun. In it you get tips on how to create a natural glow (eat your fresh fruits and veggies!), the 411 on damaging rays and how to protect yourself from sun damage. There are so many great tips in it that I guarantee you’ll learn something new.

Weight Trumps Economy?

With the economy as it is these days, it’s hard to think of what could worry us more than finances. But, turns out many of us don’t list the economy as our top source of worry lines. Nope, 60 percent of people polled by Green Mountain at Fox Run, a healthy weight-loss retreat for women, say that stress about their weight is greater or equal to their stress about the economy.

Ah, girls, come on! Take a deep breath, and instead of being stressed about your weight, get outside for some fresh air and activity, and start focusing on what you like about your body right now. Remember, fit bottoms come in all shapes and sizes, and good health happens one step—and day—at a time.Life is too short to beat yourself up!

Flipper Floppers

I love my flip-flops. Like love them. Like have pairs of them in every color. Like declare it flip-flop season and wear them nonstop from March 1 to November 1. I live in the Midwest, so this is really all my feet can take cold-wise. For years, I’ve walked around in my flipper floppers (what I like to call ’em), my toes wiggling in the fresh air, happy as a lark until…I stumbled upon and read an article on the dark side of my sunny flip-flops. I usually avoid articles that show the hard, cold reality about things I love and really don’t want to give up, but a recent study showed that these types of sandals can lead to potential injury because they alter your natural walking gait. Morose face.

As always, great stuff. I guess I don't have to worry about the flip flops. I WISH I could wear them! I have the ugliest feet ever!!! Flat, wide & bunions!!! I don't show them & I can barely fit in anything but my workout shoes & that is becoming problematic! 🙂

FitFlops are SUPER Comfortable by the way. Those are what I wear almost exclusively in the summer as I have completely flat feet and it hurts to wear anything without an arch.
