UnderReview: 10 Minute Solution Prenatal Pilates

10minprenatalI’ll admit: Pilates isn’t my absolute favorite form of exercise. I enjoy it in a classroom setting with an awesome instructor, but DVDs tend to bore me a little. However, in my bid to stay in shape during my pregnancy, I was willing to test out the 10 Minute Solution Prenatal Pilates. I was able to complete two out of five workout segments before my water decided to break five weeks early, but that won’t stop me from reviewing it!

Like the other 10 Minute Solution DVDs,this one breaks the workouts into manageable 10-minute segments. The five sections—Standing, Core, Buns & Thighs, Total Body, and Flexibility—allow you to mix and match the workout according to your needs. Sometimes even 10 minutes of exercise in the third trimester is exhausting, so the short workouts were perfect when I didn’t have much energy.

The instructor, Lizbeth Garcia, is pregnant, which helps when you’re trying to figure out how to maneuver. The DVD can be used for all three trimesters, and I wish I’d had it for my whole pregnancy. Jumping into the Core section during my third trimester was a challenge; Pilates roll-ups are difficult even when I’m not pregnant! Luckily the moves are modified by using pillows for support, but it is still a workout. I loved the Buns & Thighs segment because I got to lie down and still feel the burn.

The Flat Belly Fast bonus postnatal section was my first official ab workout postpartum. It was tough, but I felt like it was a manageable reintroduction to abs. It was pretty plank-heavy, so you get a whole core workout and manage to rock your arms in the meantime.

I’m 31 weeks pregnant, and I love working out… from Pilates to lifting to cardio (I ran a race at 27 weeks, but I’m slowing down now!). I take Pilates twice a week at a studio – Yesterday, my spinal rolldown wasn’t pretty, but I did it. I need motivation to work on my practice at home. This DVD may be it.

Thanks very much for always posting such honest, helpful information for the expecting!

Looking for something to keep fit while I expand lol! I’d looked at this before but wasn’t sure bc I hadn’t heard any reviews. Already working out, but I wanted something to add to my cardio and strength training. Thanks for the information, as always, very helpful!

I’m 18 weeks pregnant and definitely still going strong with the workouts. I’ve never really done pilates, so I’d love to give this a try!

I love Pilates and I do a few of Ellen Barrett’s DVD’s. It is tough for me to get out and exercise because I am a stay at home mom of three little ones. I use exercise DVD’s for almost all my exercise. I would love to try a prenatal DVD that I could use my whole pregnancy.

I have started to use this DVD more as I progress in my pregnancy. It is great for working the core without causing injury. I am really enjoying it and can see myself doing it more as I progress in my pregnancy. I am still able to do a few other Pilates DVD’s along with the elliptical.

I have to say, I LOVE this DVD. I’m at 22 weeks, and somehow it manages to get me feeling the right balance of energized and toned every time. It’s tough enough to be worth the effort, but always doable, whether 10 minutes at a time or the whole thing. I just love this one!

I’ve already bought this DVD, though I haven’t gotten around to using it yet! But this inspires me to try it…
