C Is for Cookie. And (This) Cookie Is for Us!

ZoneCookieDoughWe love cookies. And while it’s hard to imagine anything tastier than a cookie, we can think of one thing: Cookie dough! Unfortunately, cookie dough isn’t the healthiest of options nor is it portable. And there’s that whole salmonella risk if you make it at home. Thankfully, the folks at ZonePerfect heard our cookie battle-cry and developed a line of protein bars in cookie dough flavors. Hooray! So, we obviously heart the cookie-arific concept, but how do they taste? We selflessly put them to the taste for you, dear readers. (Talk about a hard day at the job!). We chewed on the three new flavors: Chocolate Chip, Peanut Butter and Oatmeal Raisin Cookie Dough. ZonePerfect bars aside, my favorite cookie dough is chocolate-chip—so take this review with a grain of cookie-biased salt.

All three bars boast fewer than 200 calories, have 10 grams of protein, and are a good source of 17 vitamins and minerals. So, really, they’re the perfect breakfast-on-the-go or snack. The taste-verdict? All three are darn good. And they can even fulfill a sweet-tooth craving in a pinch, as I learned one day when chocolate was calling my name, knocking me down and dragging my fit arse to the kitchen for a fix.

They don’t taste exactly like cookie dough, and they do have that protein-ish consistency and taste that most protein bars have, but they’re still soft and chewy and they don’t taste chemically or fake, which is a huge plus. The Peanut Butter bar was by far the standout option taste-wise—just the right mix of salty and sweet. The Oatmeal Raisin was my second favorite and Chocolate Chip was good, but I kind of like this cookie dough bar better.

Overall though? An FBG-approved healthier replacement for cookie dough! —Jenn
