There’s a Time For Everything, Even Spam

Recently I had the pleasure of attending this swank party in West Hollywood hosted by Travaasa Experiential Resorts. Inspired by two of the company’s newest resorts in Austin and Hana, Maui, the party gods lavished treat after treat upon its guests.
I walked into the party and was immediately greeted by a delightful woman holding a tray of Kahlua pork taro that featured heart of palm (which is my favorite thing to add to a salad!) and kimchee. What?! From the first bite, I knew I was in for a magical night. I love when food is so amazing you consciously slow down your chewing, close your eyes and savor every darn flavor that reveals itself.
I tried this amazing drink called the Floresta Pacifica made by a kind and generous mixologist. It was a large cocktail and he spared no alcohol in making the perfect drink!) It consisted of guava-infused Ocean Vodka, ginger, lime, agave, blood orange and aloe vera. Talk about smooth and indulgent!

Then there was the Loco Moco Crispy Coconut Rice Cake with Sunny Side Up Quail Egg and Kecap Manis Gravy. I’m not even sure what all of those things are, but they were delicious.

Even after all of that, the gold star for the night went to an appetizer. The celebrity chef, Sang Yoon, decided to experiment and came up with an elevated version of Spam Musubi hand-rolled. I took one bite of that damn Spam and trumpets sounded. All hail the Spam! The Spam and seaweed wrap were perfect for each other. None of the flavors competed for my taste buds’ attention. It was pure Spam-licious equality up in that roll! That’s something I thought I’d never say…
When I travel I love to experience the local cuisine. In this case, I traveled 20 minutes for a sneak peek of another land’s treats. I foresee a trip to a certain Hana resort in my future! Bring on the Loco Moco!
