Food Fight: Fruttare Fruit and Milk Bars vs. ENLIGHTENED Bars

The temps are cooling down, but our love for ice cream bars — especially those billed as healthy — is still ON FIRE. And for today’s Food Fight we’re throwing Fruttare Fruit and Milk Bars and ENLIGHTENED ice cream bars into the pit for one heck of a delicious battle. You scream; I scream. Let’s all scream for an ice cream Food Fight!

Taste and Texture

Fruttare Fruit and Milk Bars: Creamy with little chunks of fruit mixed in, these sweet treats satisfy. Both rich and fresh (no easy task!), they taste like real fruit and real milk. Offered in the flavors of Strawberry, Banana, Coconut and Peach (with milk, obviously), we love both the variety and the flavors offered. They’re a touch on the sweet side, but the milk helps balance that out. Simply fantastic!
ENLIGHTENED: These taste best if you let them sit out for a few minutes to soften up (believe us, it’s hard to wait to dive in though!), but they are light, airy and delicious. Surprisingly creamy for something so light, we loved all three flavors. Chocolate was good (like a creamy Fudgiscle), Orange Cream was even better (like a super creamy Dreamsicle!) and the Coffee was absolutely crave worthy. Actually, we want one right one.
Winner: You can’t go wrong with either brands. They are both delicious with a creamy texture that’s crave-able. So it’s a … tie!

Nutritional Facts

Fruttare Fruit and Milk Bars: One of these bars has about 110 calories, 3 grams of fat, 45 milligrams of sodium, 16 grams of sugar, 1 gram of protein and less than 1 gram of fiber. They each also have 10 percent of your vitamin C and 4 percent of your calcium needs for the day. Not bad for a sweet treat that satisfies.
ENLIGHTENED: Each ENLIGHTENED bar has about 70 calories, 2 grams of fat, 30 milligrams of sodium, 3 grams of sugar (along with 6 grams of erythritol), 8 grams of protein and 5 grams of fiber. Wow!
Winner: Fruttare’s nutritional facts aren’t bad by any means, but ENLIGHTENED’s are ridic. And we mean that in a good way. With its added protein and fiber and fewer sugar grams, it tastes like a dessert but will also fill you up. Bonus! ENLIGHTENED wins it big time!

Ingredient List

Fruttare Fruit and Milk Bars: Made with real fruit and creamy milk, these are gluten-free and have a pretty clean ingredient list. We like that they’re colored with beet juice and are all-natural, although we’re not huge fans of things like carrageenan (upsets some people’s stomachs) that are on the label.
ENLIGHTENED: Gluten-free and made with rBST-free milk and no artificial sweeteners (instead it uses erythritol and monk fruit extract), this ingredient list is pretty nice. There’s even non-GMO soluble corn fiber and orange juice concentrate.
Winner: Again, ENLIGHTENED wins it! With a cleaner ingredient list that’s more natural, it was a clear choice!

And the Food Fight Champion Is…

Winning two out of the three categories, ENLIGHTENED wins this healthy ice-cream-bar Food Fight! Congrats, ENLIGHTENED — and don’t feel bad Fruttare; we still think that you’re deliciously healthy!

    Jenn,
Did the info regarding Fruttare products being gluten free come from Fruttare itself or its just that ingredients happen to be gluten free? I see those tasty banana milk bars each time I go shopping but always hold back because couldn’t find any info about its gluten free status.
    Thanks,

Good question Faisal! Our press materials said the ingredients were gluten-free, and they felt okay on my belly! 🙂
