Have a Little Coffee With Your Tea: Coffee-Inspired Loose-Leaf Tea

Do you like coffee or tea?

It seems to be a common question. But why pick sides? We all know coffee is delicious. And tea? Well, it’s totally a superfood.
So when we got a grip of goodies from Java Tea Co.  —  a company that makes loose-leaf tea that’s inspired by coffee flavors — it got our attention. Could this be the way to have your cake and eat it, too (aka your coffee and tea at the same time)? Possibly.

Java Tea Co. blends are made with organic green tea, roobios, herbs, flavors and spices, providing twice the amount of antioxidants — and what they say is “a real coffee taste.” There are four different kinds — The Revolutionary, The Diplomat, The Liberator and The Activist.

Each claim to promise the bold coffee flavors of vanilla latte, caramel macchiato, dark chocolate mocha and espresso … that’s a tall order to fill for a tea, no?

And so we got to brewing.

Seeing that we don’t have a Moka Pot, we went with our usual way of preparing loose-leaf tea.

And the tea? Well, it’s super beautiful. And it smells GREAT — sweet, rich and like a seriously decadent treat.

Although a few pieces of the tea escaped from our little pod, it resulted in a beautiful cup of tea. (Is there anything better on a cold winter’s day? I think not.)

And the taste? Good. While it’s not really sweet at all, it does have the essence of some of your favorite coffee-shop flavors. In the different blends, you can taste hints of vanilla, caramel and chocolate. But … it was still tea. No doubt about that. Now, maybe if we try it in a Moka Pot things would be different; they sure look like it from the Java Tea Co. site. And while we’re not ready to say these teas fulfill our coffee cravings, there’s no doubt that this tea is GOOD. It may not be coffee, but it’s delicious. Without being sweet, it feels like a dessert! And it’s a great healthy choice to have when you have a hankering for something sweet but you aren’t really hungry. So while we’re not giving up our coffee pot for tea yet, we certainly will be sipping on Java Tea Co. blends!
You know what question we have to ask now, right? Tell us: Do you like coffee or tea? Hehe. —Jenn
