A Truffle a Day Keeps the Doctor Away

I love when healthy and decadent cross paths. And it doesn’t happen all that often. Sure, there are a lot of foods that are good and good for you, but not many of them have the ability to make your eyes roll back in your head. There is only one food that can be described as: velvety, rich, creamy, melt in your mouth, dare I say downright orgasmic, and healthy.
Behold the dark chocolate truffle.

Simple yet sophisticated, it is the perfect two-bite sweet (fabulous for Sweet Tooth Week!), and OMG it’s healthy, too! Study upon study has unearthed the health benefits of chocolate (which is the main ingredient in truffles) and the list keeps growing.
Dark chocolate can help lower your blood pressure, so it’s good for your heart. It increases blood flow to the brain, so it helps prevent against strokes. It helps to control blood sugar and is full of all kinds of vitamins, minerals and anti-oxidants. Its metabolic benefits may help to keep that ol’ BMI low, and its endorphin-releasing capabilities will keep us in a better mood (and make for better sex!).
Bring on the chocolate!
And not just any old chocolate will do. I want truffles. Deep, dark and delicious, and oh so simple to make, the truffle has a multifarious personality. It can be fancy or plain, dusted in cocoa, rolled in nuts or coated; it might be perfectly presented in a little gold cup or sadly misshapen and lopsided, but still divine.
And the best part: doctors recommend eating a small amount of chocolate two to three times a week and the truffle fits the bill perfectly! Yay for doctors and truffles! A batch of truffles can be kept in the freezer for up to three months, so there can always be a ready supply when you crave a treat.
Not often do the stars align, but boy, when they do, it’s freaking fabulous.
Have you ever met a truffle you didn’t like? —Karen
